Why distance alone misleads
These are the factors any experienced mechanic weighs by instinct. Clym's job is to weigh them consistently, every single ride, without you having to think about it.
Rain is not the problem — the grit it carries is. A wet drivetrain picks up abrasive material and grinds it between the rollers and pins. This is the single largest swing factor in drivetrain life, and it is why Clym checks the weather for every ride.
Loose and rough surfaces throw more debris at the drivetrain and load the suspension, tyres and bearings harder than smooth tarmac.
Sustained high torque accelerates chain elongation. E-bike drivetrains see this constantly, which is why they need attention on a noticeably shorter cycle than the same parts on an analogue bike.
Total system weight and where it sits change how quickly tyres and bearings go. Rear tyres wear substantially faster than fronts, and a loaded bike faster than an empty one.
The reason it matters
This is the single most useful thing a maintenance tracker can do for you, and it's the reason Clym exists.
A worn chain caught early is a routine part and twenty minutes in the stand.
A stretched chain reshapes the cassette teeth to match it. Now both need replacing together.
Chainrings follow the cassette, and skipping under load becomes a safety problem rather than an expense.
Nobody neglects a chain on purpose. It happens because the wear is invisible until it isn't, and because the reminder arrives as a number on a screen you weren't looking at. Clym tells you at the moment it still saves you money, and tells you what it saves.
And when it's time
You can connect Clym to a participating bike shop. When something is due, the booking request goes across with the context already attached — which bike, which components, and what the ride history says.
